Black rubber mix components are used primarily in the production of rubber for industry use. The final product is almost always black or gray. The three components of black rubber mix are:
N-isopropyl-N’-phenyl paraphenylenediamine
N-cyclohexyl-N’-phenyl paraphenylenediamine
N,N’-diphenyl paraphenylenediamine
How can I avoid it?
Patients who are allergic to the black rubber mix components are probably exposed to the cause of dermatitis at work. They should avoid contact with all black or dark rubber products. Allergic patients should also be aware of recreational products that may cause them problems such as black balls, earphones, and scuba masks. They should be instructed to avoid hair dyes that contain p-Aminodiphenylamine (or p-phenylenediamine). Some elasticized clothing such as underwear contains black rubber mix component woven with cloth, so the black or gray color is not obvious. If such patients have dermatitis at areas of elastic contact they should obtain non-elasticized clothing (drawstring garments).
